Shawn has been a Master Craftsman Painter in the IUPAT, starting in Local 9, since 1988. In 2012, we reclassified Local Number 9 to 2012. That is not the only change that has been made in the last 29 years. In 2007, the commercial painting industry was not doing well, so Shawn went into the Industrial Coatings field. The union has gone from working thirty years and retiring, to working 30 years and retiring at 55, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Shawn should have 54 years in at eligibility. His scale has nearly doubled in 20 years. Shawn has used the money to raise two great kids, and make a few investments which should tide him over through his golden years. Shawn is a proud veteran, husband and father and a member of Elks Lodge 2509, in Blue Springs.
“I have worked very hard for what I have accomplished, and I don't think I could have done it without being a member of a union. More changes are on the horizon. I'm very concerned about Missouri going right to work. Not so much for myself, but for future Generations. I feel everyone should have at least the same opportunity as I have had.” Shawn S.
